Playa del Carmen, QR — A third missing person remains unaccounted for after the recent discovery of three bodies, as authorities continue investigating the killings of two taxi drivers in Playa del Carmen. The case has taken a significant turn, with officials identifying drug trafficking in tourist areas as a primary line of inquiry.
Bodies Found Near Municipal Border
On Friday, police were alerted to the discovery of three bodies along a highway near Playa del Carmen, close to the municipal border with Puerto Morelos. Two of the victims were identified as missing taxi drivers from Playa del Carmen who had last been seen on July 17. Their bodies, still clad in uniform, were found the following day in a green area adjacent to the highway.
The third victim was identified as Jesús “N,” for whom no active missing persons report had been filed. Authorities confirmed that all three men—Saúl “N,” Saddan Alexis “N,” and Jesús “N”—were involved in drug sales in Riviera Maya’s tourist zones.
Disappearances and Criminal Ties
According to the Quintana Roo Attorney General’s Office (FGE), three men were reported missing between July 17 and 18: Saúl “N,” Saddan Alexis “N,” and David “N.” While the first two were found dead, David “N” remains missing.
In an official statement, the FGE disclosed:
“During field investigations, a third body was located, belonging to Jesús ‘N.’ No missing persons search warrant had been issued for him, but his identity has been confirmed. Initial findings suggest Saúl ‘N’ and Alexis ‘N’ were linked to drug sales and distribution in Riviera Maya’s tourist corridor, an activity that may have led to their disappearance and subsequent homicide.”
Criminal Conflict Suspected
The FGE further stated:
“The three were allegedly summoned to a meeting before their whereabouts became unknown. They were deprived of their liberty by members of a rival criminal group. The bodies have been fully identified and returned to their families in accordance with legal protocols.”
Police are still searching for David “N,” the third missing individual connected to the case. The investigation underscores ongoing tensions between criminal organizations operating in the region’s lucrative drug trade, particularly in areas frequented by tourists.
The case continues to develop as authorities pursue leads in the search for David “N” and further examine the criminal networks involved.
