Secret Grave Found in Playa del Carmen Cave

Playa del Carmen, Mexico — The Attorney General’s Office of Quintana Roo (FGE) has taken control of the recovery of a corpse found in a partially concrete-sealed cavern in the irregular settlement of Inn House, one of the most conflict-prone areas in the municipality. The discovery followed a municipal police operation prompted by a citizen report of a foul odor emanating from an apparently uninhabited lot.

A Grisly Discovery

On Tuesday, after inspecting the reported property, officers found a cavern showing clear signs of recent tampering: the concrete inside was poorly cured, and the soil bore obvious marks of excavation. Inside, what appeared to be a partially buried corpse was visible, immediately raising suspicions of a high-impact crime.

Authorities cordoned off the area and initiated investigative procedures. However, the recovery of the body could not be completed until the following morning due to the unstable conditions of the cavern’s structure and materials. Specialized personnel from the Fire Department and Civil Protection, supported by FGE forensic experts, conducted a complex exhumation operation.

Possible Connection to Missing Persons Case

Preliminary investigations suggest the remains could belong to a woman, based on a recent disappearance report of a young female in the same area. However, officials have refrained from confirming any hypotheses.

“Any speculation regarding the identity of the body or the circumstances of death is premature. Forensic analysis will determine the details,” an FGE spokesperson stated.

Authorities continue to investigate whether the discovery is linked to a missing persons case or a homicide.
