Cancún, Quintana Roo — An attempted theft was reported at the Coppel store located on Lakin Avenue at the intersection with Arco Norte in Cancún, after a man tried to leave without paying for a pair of sneakers. The individual was caught in the act by store staff, who had been closely monitoring him due to previous reports of his behavior.
According to store employees, the man entered the store, approached the footwear section, and asked to try on some sneakers. They later noticed he was no longer present and had only left his old shoes behind.
Staff at this Coppel store in Cancún then requested assistance to apprehend the man before he could leave the premises without paying for the sneakers. Agents from the National Guard were already waiting for the man, who was not detained but was forced to leave the sneakers since he did not have the means to pay for them.
Later, some State Police officers arrived at the scene to take note of what had happened. After being informed by the store staff and the National Guard, they only filed a report and left the site, as there was no formal arrest made.
For their part, employees of this Coppel store on Lakin Avenue in Cancún indicated that such theft attempts occur very frequently at this branch, leading to a specific protocol for constant surveillance.
Insecurity and Violence in the Destination
Violence continues in Cancún, where two individuals were executed in front of a secondary school in the city’s Region 228. The school is Javier Rojo Gómez, located at the intersection of 86th and 75th Streets.
The events occurred on Tuesday afternoon when several gunshots were reported via emergency number 911 in the vicinity of the aforementioned technical secondary school.
According to residents of Region 228 in Cancún, armed individuals on a motorcycle approached the two men and shot them at point-blank range until they died. They subsequently fled the scene to an unknown destination.
When police and paramedics arrived at the location, they confirmed that these individuals no longer showed vital signs, so they notified the Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office personnel to come to the site.
Meanwhile, forensic experts from the Medical Examiner’s Service proceeded to collect the bodies to take them to the morgue, where they would later perform the required autopsies to confirm the causes of death.
Although a search operation was initiated in the area, the alleged perpetrators of this new armed attack in Cancún were not located, and unfortunately, it occurred in broad daylight outside a secondary school.
