Cozumel, Mexico — A 35-year-old man survived an attempted execution in the downtown area of Cozumel Island on Thursday night.
The incident occurred around 8 p.m. near a restaurant at the intersection of Avenida 10 and Calle 2 Norte. Witnesses reported that armed assailants fired more than ten shots at the victim, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Despite his injuries, the man managed to run several meters before collapsing at a nearby taxi stand.
Emergency responders transported the wounded man to a local hospital, where he remains in serious condition with a guarded prognosis.
Authorities, including municipal police and state investigative agents, cordoned off the crime scene as forensic specialists from the State Attorney General’s Office collected evidence. A search operation is underway to locate the perpetrators.
The motive for the attack has not been disclosed.
