Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde announced that she has requested a temporary leave of absence from the Isla Mujeres City Council in order to participate in Morena’s internal process to head the Federal District Coordination for the Defense of Transformation and National Sovereignty of Federal District 3 of Quintana Roo.

Through a post on her social media, the mayor directly linked her request to the registration she made days ago as a candidate for that party responsibility, taking a new step in her search for the coordination.

“I requested a temporary leave of absence from the Isla Mujeres City Council to step down from my position as mayor,” Gómez Ricalde said. She explained that the decision was due to her participation in Morena’s internal work.

In a message addressed to party members, she assured them that during her absence the municipality would be run by a team committed to the population and maintained that there would be continuity in the work of assisting island families.

“Rest assured that during this time Isla Mujeres is in very good hands,” she said, highlighting the closeness and daily work of those who make up the municipal administration.

The publication did not specify the duration of the leave, the date it would take effect, or the name of the person who would temporarily assume the functions of the Municipal Presidency, while the announcement refers to the request submitted to the City Council.

Federal District 3 has its headquarters in Cancun, according to information from the National Electoral Institute, so Gómez Ricalde’s aspiration incorporates the party organization work of that federal district.

The coordination she seeks corresponds to an internal responsibility of Morena, and her registration places her as an aspirant, so the definition will depend on the party’s selection process.

Gómez Ricalde affirmed that she will continue to serve the people and expressed her willingness to contribute to the construction of the so-called second floor of the Fourth Transformation, as part of the political project she supports.
