Mahahual, Quintana Roo — A violent criminal operation shattered the peace of rural Mahahual after armed commandos stormed a ranch along the road to Río Indio. According to reports, approximately ten individuals dressed in tactical gear and carrying assault rifles broke into the property, firing weapons and causing panic among residents of neighboring plots who sought shelter as the attackers subdued occupants in an unusually violent display for the region.

Confusion surrounds the exact number of victims taken. Initial reports indicate the assailants beat the property owners’ children before forcibly taking a 70-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman. However, testimonies from the area suggest a more severe scenario: a possible mass kidnapping of up to 11 members of the same family, including women and minors. At least 15 people in the vicinity managed to flee into the dense jungle to avoid capture by the armed group.

The emergency report triggered an immediate deployment of the Interinstitutional Group, composed of the Mexican Army, Mexican Navy, and investigative police. During search operations along trails, federal forces located a woman in a state of nervous crisis who reported that several of her family members were scattered in the woods after being chased and shot at by the masked attackers. Authorities have prioritized combing the area to locate survivors who remain hidden, fearing another attack.

Upon arriving at the ranch identified as the epicenter of the conflict, agents found the property nearly deserted, with only one parked vehicle and no trace of the residents. A detail that has puzzled investigators is that, despite multiple testimonies claiming to have heard bursts of gunfire, State Prosecutor’s Office forensic experts reported that their initial visual inspection found no spent shell casings in the main area. This discrepancy raises questions about the mechanics of the events and whether the shootings occurred at a different point along the trail.

So far, no state or federal authority has issued an official statement clarifying the whereabouts of the missing or the motive for the aggression in this strategic southern area of the state. Uncertainty grows among the population of Mahahual and its surroundings as air and ground search operations remain active. Formal complaints from family members who managed to escape are expected to help establish the precise identity and total number of victims of this armed incursion.
