Taxi Driver Caught with Drugs and Gun in Cancún

Cancún, Mexico — During a surveillance operation in the Ciudad Natura neighborhood, officers from the Secretary of Citizen Security detained an alleged taxi driver identified as Benito "N" after catching him handling bags containing suspected narcotics behind a taxi.

The incident occurred on Circuito Natura, between Tulipán Avenue and Ocotes Private Road, in Superblock 260 of the Benito Juárez municipality. Upon noticing police presence, the suspect attempted to flee but was intercepted and apprehended.

Authorities confiscated several items tying the individual to health-related crimes and violations of the Federal Law on Firearms and Explosives. The seized materials include:

  • 62 small bags containing dried herb resembling marijuana
  • 13 small bags with solid white fragments, suspected to be crack cocaine
  • 1 short 9mm firearm
  • 1 black metal magazine
  • 7 gold-colored 9mm cartridges
  • 1 white Chevrolet Beat vehicle with green stripes (taxi)
  • 1 cell phone
  • 1 backpack

Suspect Transferred to Specialized Prosecutor’s Office

The detained individual and the confiscated items were handed over to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Drug Trafficking for further investigation. Authorities confirmed that operations will continue across the municipality to curb the sale and distribution of illegal narcotics.
