CANCÚN, MX — The Attorney General's Office of the State of Quintana Roo (FGE), in coordination with the Attorney General's Office of Justice (FGJ) of Tlaxcala, served an arrest warrant in the municipality of Apizaco against Ángel Arturo “N”, accused of probable responsibility for the crime of extortion against a businessman in the food industry.
According to the investigation, since December 2023 the victim was forced to pay 17,500 pesos for each prepared food business he owns in Benito Juárez, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and Bacalar, which totaled approximately 50,000 pesos per month for a "protection payment."
Ángel Arturo “N” operated alongside José Gerardo “N” and Ramón “N”, who had already been detained and linked to legal proceedings, remaining under the precautionary measure of preventive detention. The investigations by the Specialized Prosecutor's Office in Combating Kidnapping and Extortion Crimes indicate that the three are part of a criminal gang dedicated to extortion and drug retailing.
After being located in Apizaco, Tlaxcala, the accused was detained through a joint operation and transferred to Quintana Roo. Once in Benito Juárez, he was placed at the disposal of the requiring authority; his legal situation will be defined within the corresponding legal term.
The FGE reiterated that this type of action is part of its strategy to combat groups that generate violence and to guarantee security for merchants and business owners in the state.
