Cancún, Mexico — In observance of the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem, Aguakan will host the free community event "Pedaling for the Mangroves, Protecting Our Future," a cycling initiative aimed at raising awareness about the vital role of these fragile ecosystems. The ride will take place on August 2 in Isla Mujeres, covering over 13 kilometers of key conservation areas.
A Ride for Conservation
The route will pass through critical mangrove zones, including the Mirador del Acantilado and Punta Sur near the Monument to the Goddess Ixchel. Open to participants aged 15 and older with semi-professional bicycles, the event will feature hydration stations, rest breaks, and educational talks highlighting local mangrove species and their ecological importance.
Mangroves are essential for coastal biodiversity, water quality preservation, and mitigating the impacts of extreme weather events. Their protection ensures sustainable water resources for nearby communities.
Collaborative Effort
The initiative is organized in partnership with the Isla Mujeres City Council, Ultramar, Fundación Mia, Fiesta Inn, Hotel One, Dolphin Discovery, Fridas Cancún, and Universidad Sacro Core. Alejandra Mayorga, Aguakan’s Social Responsibility Coordinator, emphasized the event’s goals: "This ride connects people with nature, fosters environmental awareness, and strengthens our water stewardship culture. Protecting mangroves means safeguarding our future."
Free registration is available at www.aguakan.com. The effort underscores Aguakan’s commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable water management in Benito Juárez, Isla Mujeres, Puerto Morelos, and Playa del Carmen.
