Aguakan Advances Second Phase of Beach Collector in Playa del Carmen
Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Aguakan, the local water utility, is advancing the second phase of the Beach Collector project, a sanitation infrastructure upgrade aimed at strengthening wastewater management in this tourist hub.
The project involves an investment of 2.5 million pesos (about $130,000) and includes the installation of 142 meters of 10-inch sanitary sewer pipe, along with the construction of seven manholes.
Nearly two months after work began, Aguakan reports that 47 meters of pipe have been laid on 1st Avenue North between 10th and 12th Streets.
Preliminary surveys started on April 27, and construction officially began on May 11. The project is scheduled for completion by September 2026, according to the work plan.
The intervention is part of a broader strategy to eliminate septic tanks along the coastal strip and improve drainage system operations in an area with high tourist activity.
Aguakan said the work is being carried out with institutional coordination and safety measures to minimize disruptions to pedestrians, businesses, and existing underground utilities.
