Rodrigo Galán, also known as "Lord Coward", has been sentenced to 10 years and a month in prison for an assault that left his neighbor, Roberto González, quadriplegic. The incident occurred in 2017 in Playa del Carmen, Mexico when Galán attacked González with a motorcycle helmet. In addition to his prison sentence, Galán was fined 10,300 pesos.
Marcos Salvador, the attorney representing González, expressed satisfaction with the outcome. "We anticipated this result…We are pleased with the progress being made," he said. Salvador also mentioned that during the next hearing with the sentencing judge, they plan to discuss reparations to cover the expenses incurred on behalf of González.
Another lawyer on the case, Rubén Rosales Flores, admitted that he would have preferred a harsher penalty. However, he acknowledged that the law sets certain limits. "The judges deemed Galán's danger level to be medium. Based on that, they deemed 10 years and a month to be a fair sentence," he explained.
"Roberto was not seeking revenge but justice," Flores added. He also mentioned that María Fernanda N, Galán's wife, has a hearing scheduled for October 30th. The legal team plans to seek a similar outcome for her, but the result is uncertain. In the 2017 incident, Galán attacked González with a motorcycle helmet after González complained about Galán's dogs running loose without a leash. The assault caused irreversible damage to González's second and third cervical vertebrae.
