Tulum, Quintana Roo — The sound of at least twelve gunshots alerted residents of the Maya neighborhood in Tulum after hitmen executed one man and pursued another in an attempt to kill him. The events were reported around 6:30 p.m. the day before yesterday via emergency 911 calls requesting police presence and an ambulance on Saturno Poniente street between Leo and Aries Sur.
Elements of the Municipal and State Public Security Secretariats mobilized immediately. Upon observing the situation, they began cordoning off the area to preserve the crime scene.
Twenty minutes later, an ambulance from the private EMT company arrived. Paramedics attempted to provide first aid to a male victim who no longer showed any vital signs.
Simultaneously, a man with a gunshot wound to his right leg, brought in a patrol car, was transported to the Tulum IMSS Bienestar Hospital.
At the site, investigators found at least twelve spent 9mm caliber shell casings, which were collected and packaged by personnel from the Forensic Services department.
The deceased was taken to the Medical Forensic Service (SEMEFO) for a legally required autopsy while authorities await the body to be claimed by his family members.
