CHETUMAL, Mexico — Two deceased men were found with signs of violence on a dirt path near the Fraternidad Antorchista neighborhood, mobilizing various security corporations this Saturday.
The discovery was registered shortly after noon when a person who had gone to clean a plot of land in the area detected the bodies on a dirt road between Gladiolas Street and Insurgentes Avenue. After making a call to the emergency number 911, the citizen turned off their phone; however, the tracking system allowed authorities to locate the exact place.
Municipal and state police deployed an operation and confirmed that the corpses of two men were lying at the site, both with evident signs of violence.
The area was immediately cordoned off, while criminal investigators arrived at the zone to carry out the corresponding procedures.
Subsequently, personnel from the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) performed the removal of the bodies, which remain unidentified.
According to preliminary information, it is presumed the victims were subjected to torture before being deprived of their lives, although the exact mode of execution will be determined following the legally required autopsy.
The State Attorney General's Office has initiated an investigation file and is working to identify the victims.
Authorities do not rule out that the deceased could be related to recent reports of disappearances in the region, as at least five cases have been reported in the southern zone of Quintana Roo in the last two weeks.
Residents of the Fraternidad Antorchista neighborhood expressed fear following the police mobilization.
