Cancún, Mexico — Public transport companies in Cancún are evaluating the feasibility of using articulated buses as part of the new mobility and reorganization plan promoted by authorities.
In an interview, the Secretary of the Municipal Government of Benito Juárez, Pablo Gutiérrez Fernández, stated that he met with business leaders from the sector and explained that the company Autocar is evaluating the feasibility of using articulated buses on Kukulcán Boulevard and Tulum and Kabah Avenues.
Furthermore, the company Maya Caribe is conducting a similar evaluation on José López Portillo Avenue, while Transporte Bonfil is doing the same on Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard.
Advantages of Implementing Articulated Units on Routes
This was confirmed by the Quintana Roo Institute of Mobility (Imoveqroo), which stated that these companies are participating in the evaluation of the units. The goal is not only to decrease wait times but also to streamline the flow of the route.
This is because fewer units are needed to move the same number of people, which reduces congestion and efficiently connects other routes.
Municipal Government and Transport Operators Await Results from Imoveqroo
According to Pablo Gutiérrez Fernández, data generated during pilot tests carried out in recent days is still being analyzed. For now, the municipal government continues to await the results from Imoveqqro in order to present the comprehensive mobility plan and the route reorganization.
Pablo Gutiérrez met with transport operators last Monday to address this issue, as it requires the study of statistics and performance data.
"Tests have been carried out with different types of units, it is a coordinated effort… we cannot move forward until we have the completed studies," he said.
