3 Sent to Prison for Cozumel Homicide Case

Cozumel, Quintana Roo — The Attorney General’s Office of Quintana Roo (FGE) secured preventive prison sentences for three individuals allegedly involved in a qualified homicide case. The accused, identified as Josías “N,” Francisco Javier “N,” and Joana Nohemí “N,” were formally charged in connection with the death of an unidentified man.

Details of the Crime

According to official statement 119/2025-FDC, the incident occurred on July 1 in a residence located in the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood of Cozumel. Investigators determined that the three suspects forcibly entered the property armed with revolvers.

Once inside, they allegedly struck the victim in the head with the butt of a firearm while demanding money and merchandise. Before fleeing, one of the assailants fired a gunshot, inflicting fatal head injuries. The victim was later pronounced dead.

Following a thorough investigation, the FGE presented sufficient evidence before a control judge, leading to the formal indictment of all three suspects for qualified homicide. The court imposed a mandatory two-year preventive prison sentence while the criminal proceedings continue.

In a statement posted on social media, the FGE emphasized its commitment to justice, stating:

“The FGE secures two years of preventive prison for three individuals in a qualified homicide case in Cozumel. #JusticeForAll #ZeroImpunity.”

The prosecution reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring accountability and vowed to continue investigating the case to deliver a full resolution.
