Cozumel, Quintana Roo — The national leader of Mexico’s Green Ecologist Party (Partido Verde Ecologista de México), Karen Castrejón Trujillo, and the party’s Quintana Roo state leader, Renán Sánchez Tajonar, officially inaugurated Casa Verde in Cozumel on Friday. The new facility will serve as a space for governance, organization, and citizen engagement, marking a milestone in the party’s presence on the island.
A Milestone for the Green Party
The inauguration ceremony drew party members, supporters, and local leaders. Renán Sánchez Tajonar emphasized that the new headquarters reflects the persistent efforts of the party’s base. “When we started, the Green Party was not what it is today. We dreamed of having a solid structure, a formal committee, and a Casa Verde for our people. Today, that dream is a reality we earned through hard work. Thanks to that effort, everyone now looks to the Green Party,” he said.
Sánchez Tajonar highlighted the party’s growth in Quintana Roo, where it has become the second-largest political force with over 140,000 votes and more than 30,000 registered members. “The Green Party is strong, united, and full of energy. It’s a party of young people, women, and real causes like environmental protection. Here in Cozumel, we will continue defending what we love, just as we did when we opposed the fourth pier,” he stated.
Commitment to Community and Environment
Karen Castrejón praised Sánchez Tajonar for his dedication to grassroots politics, noting that Casa Verde exemplifies this commitment. “We have not forgotten our responsibility to the people. Environmental advocacy has been one of our key agendas because we cannot envision progress at the expense of nature,” she said. She also acknowledged the efforts of Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama and federal President Claudia Sheinbaum in advancing social programs.
Marco Antonio “Chacho” Mendoza, the party’s municipal leader in Cozumel, thanked the national and state leadership for their support, calling the new headquarters “a space for the base, for the people, to continue building from the ground up while listening to citizens.”
Attendees and Location
The event was attended by federal deputy Juan Carrillo Soberanis, local deputy Alexa Murguía, Playa del Carmen councilor Fernando Muñoz, Puerto Morelos trustee Carlo Fonseca, and other local leaders.
Casa Verde is located at Avenida Andrés Quintana Roo and 45 Avenida in Cozumel. It will serve as a hub for political organizing, social advocacy, and advancing the civic causes championed by the Green Party.
