Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — The municipal government of Isla Mujeres, led by Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde, has launched an open call for artists, students, and creative individuals to participate in the creation of a thematic mural at the municipality’s first Center for Animal Welfare and Control. The initiative aims to promote respect, care, and love for animals while enhancing the facility’s appearance.
A Call for Creativity and Compassion
The project, organized by the Directorate of Environment and Ecology, invites participants aged 16 and older—whether working individually or collectively—to submit artistic proposals that reflect values such as protection, affection, and commitment toward animals, particularly dogs and cats.
Mayor Gómez emphasized that the effort aligns with broader goals of fostering a more humane, compassionate, and respectful community where pets are recognized as integral members of families in Isla Mujeres. The call is open to all residents, regardless of professional artistic experience, with priority given to talent, dedication, and a passion for animal welfare.
Submission and Selection Process
Proposals must be submitted digitally by May 7 and should include a sketch in image or PDF format, along with a brief description of the concept. Submissions should be sent to the email address direcologia@ (protected for privacy).
A preselection process will begin on May 9, after which chosen participants will be contacted to deliver a physical copy of their original design and a detailed list of materials required for execution.
Strengthening Community and Animal Welfare
Yamira Yanet Ruiz Noh, a representative involved in the project, highlighted its dual purpose of showcasing local talent and reinforcing environmental education and respect for animal life.
“We are convinced that animal welfare is a fundamental part of social well-being. Through initiatives like this, we not only create better spaces but also strengthen community bonds with participation, awareness, and love,” she stated.
The mural project underscores Isla Mujeres’ commitment to integrating art and advocacy, fostering a culture of empathy toward animals while beautifying public spaces.
