Tulum, Quintana Roo — Sixty-one couples formalized their marriages in a mass wedding ceremony in Tulum ahead of Valentine’s Day, in an event led by Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo.

The ceremony, part of the 2026 Collective Weddings program, took place before February 14, known locally as the Day of Love and Friendship. The mayor emphasized that marriage represents a shared life project and a foundation for building stable families.

“These actions help create safe environments for children and adolescents by providing legal backing for unions,” Castañón Trejo said during the event.

The program is promoted by the state DIF system (Integrated Family Development) in coordination with municipal systems. Lizbet García, honorary president of Tulum’s DIF, congratulated the couples, noting that this step symbolizes trust, respect, and shared responsibility.

Clarisa Yasmín Pat Maza, director of the Civil Registry, explained that the act goes beyond an administrative procedure, consolidating legal rights and obligations. All couples received a full waiver of the processing fees as an incentive to formalize their legal status.

Following the civil ceremony, families and friends celebrated in an atmosphere of unity and joy.
