The Federal Government announced on Tuesday that it will be seizing 27 private properties for the development of the Maya Train infrastructure project. These properties, which total 236,867.87 square meters, include three located in the state of Quintana Roo.
In the municipality of Bacalar, an area of 2,576 square meters will be seized. Two properties will be taken in the municipality of Tulum, one measuring 388.81 square meters and the other 719.45 square meters. These properties will be used for infrastructure works on Section 6 of the project. Additionally, a property of 111.95 square meters will be seized in the municipality of Puerto Morelos for Section 5 North.
Further properties will be seized in Palenque, Chiapas; Candelaria, Hecelchakán and Dzitbalché in Campeche; and Umán, Valladolid and Mérida, in Yucatán.
The Ministry of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu) has made the topographic plans of these properties available to any individuals or entities who can demonstrate a legal right to them. Interested parties have 15 days from notification or from the second publication of the declaration in the Official Gazette of the Federation to express their views.
Once an agreement has been reached with the property owners, the government will proceed with the immediate occupation of the properties and process their compensation to finalize the expropriation.
