23 Rescued in Cancún Trafficking Raids

Benito Juárez, Quintana Roo — Following the execution of two search warrants at properties in this municipality, the State Attorney General's Office (FGE), in coordination with elements of the National Guard and Municipal Police, rescued 23 women who are alleged victims of the crime of human trafficking in its modality of prostitution for others. A male individual was also detained in flagrante delicto for his possible relation to events likely constituting the aforementioned crime.

The first operation took place at a bar located on Avenida José López Portillo, between Avenida Tulum and Calle 7 in Supermanzana 64, where agents rescued seven women of Mexican nationality and three Cuban women. The victims were forced to consume drinks with clients, charging 200 pesos per cocktail and 400 pesos per beer, of which the business retained half.

Initial investigations indicate that the now-detained individual, identified as Javier "N," charged one thousand pesos for the sexual services offered by the victims, as well as an additional one thousand pesos for the women to leave the bar. Among the belongings of the detainee were a cell phone, cash, condoms, and a solid white material resembling crack.

Similarly, another operation was carried out on properties located at lots 21 and 20A of Supermanzana 66, where 13 Mexican women were rescued. The victims were forced to provide sexual services for 250 pesos, of which they had to hand over 50 pesos as a commission to a female manager. This manager collected the money daily and reportedly amassed between 36,000 and 40,000 pesos weekly.

Upon concluding the operations, agents placed seizure seals on the properties, which are now under the custody of the Social Representation office.

The 23 rescued victims were transported to the State Attorney General's Office, while the detainee, along with the secured evidence, was turned over to the Public Prosecutor's Office. The legal situation of Javier "N" will be determined within the term prescribed by law.
