A violent confrontation between the Chiapas Cartel and the Sinaloa Cartel has resulted in the deaths of 20 people, including four Guatemalans. The Chiapas State Attorney General's Office confirmed the murders occurred over the weekend in the municipality of La Concordia. The area is a disputed territory between the two criminal organizations, which borders Guatemala.
The investigation and recovery of the bodies were conducted by the Fraylesca District prosecutor's office, in collaboration with the National Guard, the National Defense Secretariat, and the State Preventive Police.
Authorities were alerted to the scene on June 30th, where they discovered the bodies on a dirt road between the ejidos San Nicolás and Reforma. The victims were found in a dump truck, as well as in the cab and on the ground, all of them suffering from gunshot wounds.
Six of the victims have been identified as Mario "N", Geremias "N", Fredy "N", Baudulio "N", Óscar "N", and Luis "N". The identities of the remaining victims are yet to be confirmed, although it has been revealed that at least four of them were Guatemalan.
All the victims were found wearing dark clothing and tactical vests, and were in possession of gun magazines. It is believed that the deadly incident was a result of a clash between the Sinaloa Cartel and the Chiapas and Guatemala Cartel, to which the victims reportedly belonged.
Initial reports of the incident were shared on social media, where graphic images of the victims were posted. In one video, an unidentified individual can be heard claiming there are more than 30 bodies, while also firing at one of the corpses. These images were first circulated on the internet on June 28th.
