Cancún, Mexico — A 10-month-old baby remains hospitalized under specialized medical care at the Jesús Kumate Rodríguez General Hospital after sustaining injuries in an armed attack last night in the Region 240 area. The incident left three members of the same family wounded.
Details of the Attack
According to official reports, the assault was carried out by two individuals on a motorcycle who opened fire on their victims. The infant was initially transported by private means to an IMSS hospital, where she received preliminary care, before being transferred to the General Hospital for multidisciplinary treatment.
Jaime Padilla, head of the Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security and Transit (SMSCyT), personally visited the hospital to verify the medical attention provided to the child.
Police Under Investigation
The SMSCyT’s Internal Affairs Directorate has opened case file SMSCT/DA/210/07/2025 to investigate the actions of officers assigned to unit number 5033, who were the first responders at the scene. Authorities are examining a possible failure to act, as the officers did not immediately transport the baby while waiting for an ambulance.
As a precautionary measure, the two officers have been temporarily removed from operational duties pending the internal investigation.
Support for Victims
From the outset, personnel from the Specialized Group for Attention to Family and Gender Violence (GEAVIG) and the municipal DIF System have provided psychological support, comprehensive assistance, and direct aid to the victims' relatives.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to collaborating with relevant agencies to clarify the circumstances of the attack, apprehend those responsible, and ensure the crime does not go unpunished. The investigation remains ongoing.
