Exclusive: Yucatan’s Cinematic Debut in ‘Before Dinner’ – A Game-Changing Film Industry Boost!

The Yucatan is set to be the backdrop for an upcoming Mexican movie, 'Before Dinner'. The film, entirely Mexican-made, is scheduled to start shooting in early 2025. This project is part of an ambitious initiative by the National Chamber of the Film Industry (Canacine) to promote the Yucatan's film industry.

Jonathan Hellwig Guerra, the state delegate of Canacine, has expressed excitement about the project. Although he could not disclose further details about the cast and budget, he did confirm that the film has garnered substantial interest and financial support from local Yucatecan businesses.

This film represents one of Canacine's major investments in Mexican cinema. It involves a new generation of producers and creative filmmakers who aim to bring a fresh perspective to the Mexican film industry. Despite significant growth in recent years, Guerra believes that the industry needs to focus more on storytelling and creativity.

"We need to progress in terms of development and quality scriptwriting to produce engaging stories. Mexican cinema has become stagnant, with an overemphasis on dialogue. It has primarily focused on romantic comedies with often crude language. We need to challenge ourselves to create more thoughtful cinema," Guerra stated.

He also highlighted that the Yucatan has become a popular location for film production. Besides its picturesque landscapes and facilities, the region boasts a wealth of young talent. Canacine aims to nurture this talent through its 'Incubator of Ideas' initiative. "This project is about striving for improvement and that's what we're aiming for," Guerra concluded.
