Mérida, Yucatán — Yucatán delivered a standout performance in the regional phase of the National Olympics 2026, held across San Francisco de Campeche, Puerto Morelos in Quintana Roo, and Mérida, drawing over two thousand participants including competitors, coaches, and families.
The local delegation secured qualification for multiple teams and athletes to the national stage, scheduled for April and May across seven venues in Puebla, Jalisco, Nayarit, San Luis Potosí, Guanajuato, Tlaxcala, and Yucatán.
Volleyball and Table Tennis Success
In indoor volleyball, Yucatán’s older girls’ youth team went undefeated, winning all four matches, including a decisive victory over Quintana Roo (25-19 and 25-23), securing their spot in the National Olympics. In the boys’ category, Chiapas claimed the ticket, leaving Yucatán in third place.
Table tennis brought positive results for the Yucatán delegation, qualifying teams in girls’ Under-11, boys’ and girls’ Under-13, boys’ and girls’ Under-15, and boys’ Under-19 categories, totaling 24 competitors who will represent the state in the next round.
Baseball and Chess Triumphs
In baseball, Yucatán’s pre-junior and junior selections defeated Campeche and Tabasco, finishing undefeated and securing 40 athletes for the national stage.
Chess also contributed victories, with 10 tickets to the National Olympics, highlighted by first-place finishes from Atlas Galaviz Medina, Sofía Gómez Cámara, Dana Tuk Martín, Diego Salazar Reyes, and Julio Macosay López across various categories.
During the qualifiers, dozens of families enjoyed Yucatán’s sports venues and took the opportunity to explore the state’s beaches, archaeological sites, and restaurants, blending sport and tourism.
The schedule continues with athletics at the “Salvador Alvarado” Stadium and amateur boxing at the Poliforum Zamná, where over 900 athletes are expected to participate in both events, solidifying Yucatán as a talent hub for the National Olympics 2026.
