Mérida, Yucatán — Yucatán Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena led the traditional Three Kings’ Day celebration in the Plan de Ayala Sur II neighborhood of Mérida, where he announced the construction of a dome in the local park to improve public spaces for children and youth.
The event, held on January 5, integrated the Three Kings’ Day tradition and served as a platform to reaffirm his administration’s commitments to the local community.
During his participation in the Plan de Ayala Sur II park, Díaz Mena explained that his presence in the neighborhood responded both to the gesture of sharing the Three Kings’ bread and to express gratitude for the citizen support that allowed him to assume the governorship. In that context, he announced the construction of a dome that will provide the public space with a covered structure that will allow sports, recreational, and community activities to be carried out at any time, regardless of weather conditions, thus strengthening the community infrastructure offerings in the area.
The state governor emphasized that the dome construction also arises from proposals by local legislator Clara Rosales Montiel, who had pointed out the lack of adequate recreational spaces for neighborhood families. The dome, he assured, will allow the park to be a safe and functional place for children and youth to practice activities and socialize in an environment protected from sun and rain.
In his message, Díaz Mena detailed that the State Government is promoting the “Bienestar para Mérida” plan, through which paving works and improvements to public spaces are being carried out in more than ten neighborhoods of the Yucatecan capital. The purpose of these actions is to offer more dignified and safe urban environments for families, he pointed out, with the aim of promoting social cohesion and reducing inequality gaps in areas with greater needs.
During the celebration, which brought together residents of different ages, the governor also thanked the support of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo for backing works in Mérida and other regions of the state, which, he said, has been fundamental in addressing population demands regarding infrastructure and public services. The gathering included the tasting of the traditional Three Kings’ bread with attendees, thus reinforcing ties between the state government and communities through a popular tradition.
The Three Kings’ bread cutting and the announcement of the work are part of a series of actions and commitments by the state government aimed at promoting social cohesion and improving quality of life in Mérida’s neighborhoods. With the construction of the dome in the Plan de Ayala Sur II park, authorities seek to provide a versatile space for cultural, sports, and recreational activities that contributes to the comprehensive development of families in the area.
