Local Baritone Headlines Romantic Opera Night in Cancún

Cancún, Mexico — At just 19 years old, Mexican baritone Enrique Pérez Mendoza, a native of Puerto Aventuras, Quintana Roo, returns to the Mexican Caribbean to present Romantic Opera Night, a concert he conceived and headlines that places young operatic talent with international reach at center stage in Cancún.

The performance will take place on Wednesday, January 7, at 6:30 p.m. at the Teatro de la Ciudad, one of Cancún’s principal cultural venues, and is designed for adult audiences. Tickets are available through mistickets.com.mx and at the theater box office, Monday through Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

For this special evening, Pérez Mendoza will be joined by the Cancún Classical Orchestra, conducted by Francisco Hernández Bolaños, alongside internationally acclaimed guest artists: Russian mezzo-soprano Irina Popova and Japanese pianist, organist, and composer Kento Yu. Together, the ensemble will present a program centered on Romantic-era opera, highlighting the emotional depth and expressive power that define the genre.

Although still in his teens, Pérez Mendoza has already built an impressive international résumé. He left Mexico at age 14 to pursue formal musical training in Europe and has since performed at some of the world’s most prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall in New York, Royal Albert Hall in London, the Musikverein in Vienna, the Tokyo City Opera Hall, the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Beethoven House in Bonn, and the Opéra Bastille in Paris. His career has taken him across Switzerland, Austria, Germany, England, the United States, Japan, and Mexico.

His work has also been recognized in the competitive operatic circuit, earning 13 first-place awards and two second-place finishes in international singing competitions—distinctions that underscore his rapid ascent and technical maturity as a young baritone.

Currently, Pérez Mendoza is continuing his professional development at the Richard Wagner Conservatory in Vienna, where he is focused on refining his craft as an opera singer and soloist. His return to Quintana Roo marks both a homecoming and a milestone, offering local audiences the opportunity to experience a rising voice from the region on an international trajectory.

Romantic Opera Night positions Cancún not only as a tourist destination, but also as a stage for high-level classical performance and cross-cultural artistic exchange.
