Robbery with a Knife in Playa Del Carmen

Playa Del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A robbery with a knife was recorded during the early hours of Sunday in the Nicte-Há neighborhood, specifically on Avenida 20 with Calle Agustín Melgar, after a young man was stripped of his belongings upon exiting a taxi and heading to his home.

According to preliminary information, the victim was traveling in a taxi from the “Lázaro Cárdenas del Río” union and, upon arriving at his destination in the city of Playa del Carmen, exited the vehicle to enter his residence.

It was at that moment when another individual approached him and, after threatening him with a knife, forced him to hand over his belongings. The alleged criminal managed to seize cash and a high-end cell phone, identified by the victim as an iPhone 17, before fleeing to an unknown location, taking advantage of the low flow of people in the area at those early morning hours.

It emerged that the young man was intoxicated at the time of the events, a situation that may have been a factor in him not immediately requesting support from the authorities.

It was almost an hour after the robbery when the victim managed to contact emergency services to request police intervention.

Police officers arrived at the scene and interviewed the affected person, who provided the general characteristics of the incident.

Preliminarily, the young man indicated that allegedly one of his neighbors could have been responsible for the robbery; however, he stated that he could not identify him with certainty due to the inconvenient state he was in at the time of the assault.

Given the lack of precise data to identify the alleged perpetrator, the police officers proceeded only to file the corresponding report and guided the victim to go before the ministerial authority to file a formal complaint.

So far, no arrests have been reported for these events, while authorities urge citizens to take extreme precautions, especially during nighttime hours, and to immediately report any criminal incident to facilitate timely intervention.
