Puerto Morelos, Mexico — A 26-year-old man, identified as Edson Armando Figueroa, was found with a gunshot wound and his limbs bound in a green area of the municipality of Puerto Morelos during the early hours of Monday. The victim was transported to the General Hospital "Jesús Kumate Rodríguez," but he died minutes later due to the severity of his injuries.
Discovery and Emergency Response
The discovery was reported shortly after 1:00 a.m. by a neighbor who heard the young man's cries for help. The neighbor called the emergency number 911 to report the incident.
Municipal Police officers arrived at the scene, located on an unpaved path, and confirmed that it was a young man dressed in a white sports t-shirt, brown Bermuda shorts, and black and white sneakers. He was tied hand and foot and covered in blood.
Paramedics from the Red Cross provided first aid and transported the young man, who was still alive, to the hospital.
Victim's Statement to Authorities
Before being taken to the hospital, Edson managed to tell authorities that he had been deprived of his liberty in the Tierra Maya subdivision, where he was beaten and shot by three individuals.
Official Report and Investigation
The death was reported to the State Attorney General's Office around 5:00 a.m. by the hospital's social service staff.
Agents from the Ministerial Police homicide unit and personnel from the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) went to the hospital and took charge of collecting the body and initiating the corresponding inquiries.
