Chetumal, Quintana Roo – At least 20 investigation files related to the Xibalbá case have been judicialized, while another 230 remain in the process of integration and processing before the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), according to lawyer Rafael Rivero, legal representative of a group of affected individuals.

In late October 2025, the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) opened an investigation file for the alleged crimes of fraud and animal mistreatment against the company “Casa Xibalbá,” dedicated to offering pet cremation services in the city of Chetumal, after a clandestine cemetery with animal remains that were supposedly cremated was discovered.

The victims’ lawyer, Rafael Rivero Aburto, specified that the progress in the investigation files represents a relevant step within a complex process that involves hundreds of people and has required exhaustive technical and legal work by the ministerial authorities.

“The judicialization of these first files confirms that there are sufficient elements to bring the cases before a judge; however, there is still a significant volume of files that continue under analysis,” he explained.

The litigator detailed that the remaining 230 files are at different stages of the procedure, ranging from the collection of evidence data, interviews, expert opinions, and cross-referencing of information, to the determination of responsibilities.

He emphasized that the FGE has maintained constant communication with the complainants and their legal representatives to strengthen the files and avoid undue delays.

Rafael Rivero noted that, given the magnitude of the Xibalbá case, institutional attention has required the coordination of various areas of the Attorney General’s Office, with the aim of guaranteeing due process, the protection of victims, and the correct judicialization of the matters.

“It is essential that each file is properly integrated to prevent the cases from being dismissed in court. The priority is that there be effective justice,” he stated.

The lawyer indicated that the affected individuals have been informed of the progress and legal timelines, and reiterated the call to authorities to accelerate the work without compromising the solidity of the investigations. In this regard, he expressed confidence that in the coming weeks more files can be judicialized as pending procedures are concluded.

Rafael Rivero urged victims who have not yet formalized their complaint to approach the State Attorney General’s Office to receive guidance and join the ongoing processes, so that all cases related to Xibalbá are investigated and resolved in accordance with the law.
