Cancún, Quintana Roo — Xcaret Group has denied allegations of animal abuse after a macaw died at one of its facilities, stating the death resulted from the bird injuring itself and was not caused by human intervention.
The company issued a statement following social media posts about the macaw’s death, calling it “an unfortunate incident” where the animal “inflicted irreversible injuries on itself.”
Xcaret clarified that the incident occurred last year, not recently, and was handled immediately according to internal protocols and applicable regulations.
“We confirm there was no human intervention intended to harm the specimen,” the company said.
The company added that it reported the incident promptly to relevant authorities and has technical reports and official documentation supporting its version of events.
“At Xcaret Group, animal welfare is a fundamental principle,” the statement continued. “All animals under our care receive specialized attention, permanent supervision, and management under strict protocols, aligned with our commitment to respect, conservation, and dignified treatment of life.”
