Teen Survives 8 Shots in Tulum Attack

Tulum, Quintana Roo — A woman approximately 15 years of age was found with multiple gunshot wounds on Sunday afternoon following an attempted execution. The incident, which left the young woman seriously injured, occurred on a road leading to the former landfill of Tulum.

Location of the Attack and Emergency Response

Authorities reported that the events took place in the vicinity of the Pino Suárez community, approximately 200 meters from Federal Highway 307. A person discovered the victim lying in the undergrowth with gunshot wounds and immediately called the emergency number.

State and municipal police officers promptly arrived at the location and confirmed the report. Paramedics at the scene attended to the woman, who was still showing vital signs, and she was immediately transported to a hospital.

Medical examinations at the hospital confirmed she had sustained at least eight gunshot wounds to various parts of her body. Due to the severity of her injuries and the imminent risk to her life, she underwent emergency surgery. She currently remains in stable condition while awaiting recovery.

Authorities have launched an investigation to clarify the facts and determine the identity of those responsible. No further details regarding the motive for the attack have been released at this time.

Details Emerge About the Victim and the Assault

Reports indicate the victim is a native of Tulum and worked as a cleaning laborer at a construction site.

According to emerging accounts, the victim had gone to bathe at the "Chivero" cenote on Saturday when she was allegedly intercepted by two individuals. They forced her into a taxi and took her from the location against her will.

It was also mentioned that upon arriving in the area where she was later found injured, the subjects attempted to execute her. The victim managed to escape, at which point the implicated individuals opened fire, inflicting the eight gunshot wounds.

Context of Violence in Tulum

This event marks a resurgence of violence in Tulum, as several similar crimes have been registered this year against people who were allegedly implicated in drug sales.

Residents of the locality are calling for reinforced security in the area, stating they have been affected by violent events that have impacted the local economy. During the past summer, they reported low sales and a sparse influx of visitors due to insecurity.
