Woman Found Dead in Cancún Home, Authorities Suspect Femicide

Cancún, Quintana Roo — A woman’s body was discovered in an advanced state of decomposition inside a home in Cancún’s Region 516 neighborhood on Wednesday afternoon, with authorities activating a femicide investigation protocol.

Neighbors reported the incident around 2 p.m. after detecting foul odors coming from the residence at the intersection of 38th Street and 135th Avenue. They contacted authorities, who responded to the scene.

Police officers confirmed finding the body of a woman, approximately 40 years old, in an advanced state of decomposition. Residents told investigators they heard a loud argument coming from the home over the weekend.

Because the victim was female, authorities activated the femicide protocol while investigating evidence to determine if the death resulted from violence.

Forensic experts from the State Prosecutor’s Office collected the body and transported it to the Forensic Medical Service facilities for examination.
