Yucatán, Mexico — A US citizen wanted in Massachusetts on suspicion of sexual offenses against a minor, possession of child sexual abuse material and alleged acts of zoophilia has been arrested in Yucatán, in an operation coordinated between Mexican authorities and Interpol.
The suspect, identified as Jonathan Marcus Wall, was tracked down after investigators found he had placed an order on Amazon using his real name. Mexican media outlets reported that the purchase provided agents with information that helped them pinpoint his whereabouts.
According to the account, Wall left the United States after learning that authorities there were looking for him. He first traveled to Costa Rica, where he stayed out of sight for a period, before entering Mexico and making his way to Yucatán, where he allegedly tried to settle in order to avoid detection.
Investigators continued working the case until they identified the Amazon order tied to his real identity, a lead that allowed them to narrow their search and establish where he was staying. He was ultimately located and taken into custody in Yucatán.
Following his arrest, Wall was handed over to the corresponding authorities while procedures continue over the crimes for which he is sought in the United States. The Massachusetts State Police had been searching for him, according to journalist Carlos Jiménez, who reported that the detention was carried out by Mexican security forces.
