Uruguay National Team Arrives in Cancun for 2026 World Cup Base Camp

Governor Mara Lezama welcomes Uruguay national soccer team to Cancun

Cancun, Quintana Roo — The Uruguayan national soccer team has arrived in Cancun to establish its training base ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Governor Mara Lezama announced Wednesday.

Lezama shared the news on social media, welcoming the South American squad to the Mexican Caribbean and highlighting Quintana Roo’s role in the global football event.

“La Celeste lands in Cancun, its concentration base for the World Cup! We welcome the Uruguayan national football team to Quintana Roo, the World Capital of Vacations. Welcome to the Mexican Caribbean!” Lezama wrote.

The 2026 World Cup is being co-hosted by Mexico, the United States, and Canada. Although Cancun is not a host city, its hotel infrastructure, connectivity, and services make it a strategic location for national teams to train and prepare.
