Two Women Rescued From Human Trafficking in Cancún Search Warrants

Police seal a property in Cancún after authorities rescued two women from human trafficking during two search warrants

Cancún, Quintana Roo — State prosecutors backed by Mexican Navy and National Guard personnel rescued two Mexican women from human trafficking during two search warrants carried out in the municipality of Benito Juárez, officials said.

The raids stemmed from investigations into the crime of forcing others into prostitution, according to the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office. Both operations were carried out in Cancún.

First Raid on Calle Roble

Officers executed the first court order on Calle Roble, between Avenida Uxmal and Avenida Chichén Itzá in Supermanzana 23. They found the two women offering sexual services at the property and determined they were required to hand over 50 percent of their earnings to a superior.

At that address, authorities seized five grinders containing green and dried plant matter resembling marijuana, a glass pipe, metal bags holding the substance, packages of condoms and various documents.

Second Raid in Villas del Caribe

The second inspection took place on Calle Villas del Coral inside the Villas del Caribe subdivision in Supermanzana 520. There, officers seized traces of white powder, packages of condoms and green, dried plant matter.

After finishing both searches, prosecutors and federal personnel placed seizure seals on the entrances to the properties, leaving them under legal custody.

Investigators took the two rescued women to State Prosecutor’s Office facilities to give statements. Authorities turned the evidence collected at both properties over to the Public Ministry to build the corresponding case files.
