PLAYA DEL CARMEN, QR — Investigative police from the State Attorney General’s Office, in coordination with municipal police, have detained two individuals for their probable involvement in the homicide of an Argentine tourist in Tulum, which occurred on January 9, as well as for injuries inflicted on two other people.
The detainees were identified as Fernando Jonathan “N” and Adán Osvaldo “N”. They were initially apprehended in Playa del Carmen for crimes against health, specifically small-scale drug dealing.
According to preliminary investigations, they are believed to be connected to the homicide of the Argentine tourist in Tulum, in addition to having shot and injured two men who worked as security personnel at a cenote.
The incident took place near the parking lot of a recreational cenote located on the federal highway between Tulum and Felipe Carrillo Puerto, where a citizen of Argentine nationality lost his life. The case is being investigated as a homicide by ministerial authorities.
At the scene, criminalistics experts secured spent 9-millimeter caliber shell casings, considered for the exclusive use of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, as part of the procedures related to the homicide.
The investigations allowed for the identification of the alleged perpetrators through analysis of images from surveillance cameras near the location of the events. Furthermore, authorities do not rule out their possible link to a criminal group generating violence in the area, dedicated to small-scale drug dealing, a line of inquiry also being followed in the homicide case.
After completing the corresponding procedures, both detainees were placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, who will determine their legal status in accordance with the deadlines established by law.
