Two Cuban men arrested for assaulting an elderly woman in Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo

Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — Two Cuban nationals have been arrested in connection with an assault on an elderly woman and her son, state prosecutors announced Monday.

State Attorney General Raciel López Salazar said the suspects, identified as Alexander “N” and Andys Luis “N,” are accused of assault and threats against a 67-year-old woman and her son in the Villas Morelos neighborhood on May 25.

According to the investigation, the victim was arriving at her home when Alexander “N” allegedly intercepted her. The two had a long-running property boundary dispute. Prosecutors say Alexander “N” struck the woman in the head, causing a bleeding wound. When her son tried to intervene, both suspects allegedly attacked him as well before fleeing the scene.

The incident drew widespread attention on social media after a video of the attack circulated online, prompting residents to organize a protest outside one of the suspects’ homes.

Following a complaint filed by the victims, the State Prosecutor’s Office obtained arrest warrants for both men. They were taken into custody and handed over to a judge, who will determine their legal status within the constitutional deadline. The investigation remains ongoing.
