Xulhá, Quintana Roo — Two children were hospitalized in stable condition after accidentally consuming rat poison in this community near Chetumal, emergency officials reported.
Emergency medical technicians responded to a call about the poisoning and found the children showing clear signs of intoxication. Paramedics administered stabilization procedures at the scene before transporting the children to General Hospital for urgent treatment.
At the hospital, a team of specialists began intensive detoxification procedures. Medical staff were able to neutralize the substance before it could cause multi-organ damage or permanent harm to the children, thanks to the prompt response and transport.
Following gastric lavage and specialized treatment, the most recent medical report indicates both children are stable and out of danger, though they remain under clinical observation to monitor their metabolic recovery.
Following this incident, civil protection authorities have strengthened their recommendations for handling household chemicals. Officials emphasize that products like pesticides and rat poisons should be kept strictly under lock and key in containers that cannot be confused with food, noting that prevention is the only effective barrier against such accidents that endanger the most vulnerable.
