Shooting at Cancún Construction Site Linked to Extortion

Cancún, Quintana Roo — A routine workday at a construction site in the Kusamil subdivision turned violent when two alleged laborers were shot during working hours inside a building under construction in Cancún’s Region 110.

The shooting occurred on Álamos Street. Witnesses among the workers immediately alerted their supervisor and dialed emergency services.

Public security units and private ambulances arrived at the scene, locating two men with severe gunshot wounds. Both were rushed to Hospital General Jesús Kumate Rodríguez in critical condition. Although they are now reported as stable, unofficial sources suggest the victims may be linked to a criminal group involved in extorting workers and distributing drugs in the area.

One of the victims was reportedly identified by an individual who had previously accused him of forcing workers to pay "quotas" to continue their jobs. The alleged enforcer, identified as Candelario M. M., approximately 50 years old and originally from Tabasco, was known to pose as a security guard at the site.

According to sources close to the investigation, the victims pretended to be security personnel but were actually collecting payments on behalf of a criminal organization operating in Cancún. Authorities suspect the attack may be a result of a dispute between rival factions of organized crime.

Prosecutors in Quintana Roo are actively investigating the case. As part of preliminary inquiries, the construction site supervisor was detained for questioning. The state Attorney General’s Office has not ruled out the possibility of additional individuals being involved in this extortion network within the construction sector.
