TULUM, Mexico — Investigative Police and elements of the Municipal Police of Tulum have captured a taxi driver for the murder of a woman that occurred on October 5 in the tourist destination.
State Attorney General Raciel López Salazar reported that the detainee is Martín Félix, 37, originally from Yucatán, while the victim was named Dulce, 20 years old.
"Martín Félix is a driver for a taxi union in that community and was detained while traveling in a Suzuki-brand taxi in possession of marijuana and crystal," said the attorney general.
Regarding the homicide, he reported that the detainee Martín Félix was inside his taxi outside a Tulum bar in the early morning hours when he picked up three unidentified individuals who brought the woman, Dulce, into the vehicle. The victim was allegedly a drug distributor for a criminal group.
"Subsequently, the taxi driver drove in the direction of the municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, stopping at the entrance to a cenote, where they took the victim out and deprived her of her life by shooting her four times in the head, shoulder, and abdomen with a 9 mm caliber firearm for the exclusive use of the Army, Navy, and Air Force," added the attorney general.
After the homicide, the criminals returned in the same taxi to the city of Tulum and got off at the bus terminal.
According to the attorney general, the motive for the murder was that the victim was allegedly stealing from the criminal group to which the now-detained man belongs.
The detainee has been placed at the disposal of a control judge and was sent to preventive prison.
