Residents of Tulum recently expressed their anger after images surfaced showing a Civil Protection unit being used inappropriately. The PC-09 van, which is meant for emergency services, was seen transporting drums and other musical instruments. This has led to widespread criticism and questions about how public resources are being used in the municipality.
Social media reports suggest that the operational director of Civil Protection, Juan Carlos Medina Sosa, known as "Taralacas", may have authorized the use of the official vehicle for this purpose. This has caused discontent among residents who believe it's unacceptable for a vehicle intended for emergencies like fires, accidents or natural disasters to be used for unrelated activities.
The incident has drawn more attention as it coincided with preparations for a local parade, indicating the vehicle might have been used to transport rehearsal equipment. Many residents view this as an inappropriate use of municipal property and are concerned about the potential risk if a real emergency were to occur while the vehicle was being used for non-emergency activities.
This isn't the first time Medina Sosa has been accused of misusing public resources. In previous administrations, he was alleged to have used a Civil Protection unit to transport a sofa from Playa del Carmen to Tulum. This pattern of misuse has increased residents' mistrust, leading to calls for an investigation into how resources are managed within the Civil Protection department.
