Tulum Municipality Reaffirms Educational Commitment
Tulum, Mexico — The municipal government of Tulum has reaffirmed its commitment to education by accompanying the return to classes of over 10,000 students and announcing new actions to strengthen the municipal educational system in 2026.
Within the framework of the start of the school cycle, the Tulum municipal government conducted a tour of various basic education schools where more than 10,000 students in the municipality returned to classrooms.
Representing Municipal President Diego Castañón Trejo, the Director General of Education, Nilvia Lizama, visited different school centers to welcome students, teachers, and educational staff, wishing them a successful start to classes and reiterating institutional support for the school community.
During her message, Nilvia Lizama highlighted the importance of children and youth for Tulum’s development, stating that investing in their education ensures a future with greater opportunities for the municipality.
“You are the present and future of our municipality; attending to your good development and growth ensures a prosperous Tulum, made up of citizens with more opportunities,” she expressed to students and teachers.
The municipal official reiterated the City Council’s willingness to work in a coordinated manner with administrators and teachers, emphasizing that the government led by Diego Castañón maintains a high interest in strengthening educational actions for the benefit of Tulum residents.
Currently, Tulum has 86 basic level schools, which receive support through various municipal programs, including:
- Academic tutoring
- Psychopedagogical support
- Educational scholarships
- Teacher workshops
- Environmental education programs
- School management
- School transportation service in the Maya Zone
It was also reported that for 2026, the expansion of scholarship programs, greater coverage of school transportation in communities of the Maya Zone, and the reactivation of the municipal library are in the process of being managed, as part of actions aimed at strengthening educational infrastructure and services.
With these actions, the municipal government of Tulum focuses its efforts on expanding opportunities for girls, boys, and youth, reaffirming that social justice must begin with support for education and family well-being, as the basis for the comprehensive development of the municipality.
