Cancún, Quintana Roo — Tulum International Airport has made the Felipe Carrillo Puerto-Tulum stretch of Federal Highway 307 one of the most heavily serviced routes for emergency roadside assistance in the state, according to officials.

Eduardo García Valdelamar, director of the Angeles Verdes emergency services unit in Quintana Roo, said in a telephone interview that the airport has caused a significant increase in motorist traffic in the area, which continues to grow month by month.

He stated that Angeles Verdes considers the Felipe Carrillo Puerto-Tulum corridor the second-busiest area for callouts in the state, behind only the Cancún-Playa del Carmen route. “This airport created a ‘boom’ with this situation. More tourists are arriving at this airport, and the volume of service requests now stretches practically from Cancún to Felipe Carrillo Puerto,” García Valdelamar added.

The director also noted that Cozumel is another area in the state that frequently requires high levels of emergency service support. “Despite being a small place, it generates a lot of work due to the large number of visitors to the island,” he said.

Regarding the upcoming Holy Week holidays, García Valdelamar announced that the service will deploy 10 units with 28 personnel across the municipalities of Benito Juárez, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, and Othón P. Blanco.

He emphasized that the unit is prepared to provide assistance during the holiday period in coordination with emergency agencies from all three levels of government.

The director noted that most service calls during vacation seasons involve mechanical failures, particularly related to engines in poor condition.

He advised drivers to check their vehicles mechanically (brakes, tires, oil, lights), use seat belts, respect speed limits, and avoid using cell phones while driving.

In case of emergencies or for tourist information on federal highways, motorists can call 078 or use the “Ángeles Verdes” app.
