The new Tulum Airport will actually be located in Felipe Carillo Puerto.

TULUM – The President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, revealed the purchase and location of the land where the new Tulum Airport will be built. The purchase agreement includes 200 hectares of ejidatario land in Felipe Carrillo Puerto.

“An agreement has already been reached with the ejidatarios of Felipe Carrillo Puerto for the construction of the new Tulum airport.

Although the airport is in Tulum, the truth is that the land is in Felipe Carrillo Puerto, very close to Tulum, ” said AMLO in his morning speech.

AMLO also commented that a company is being created that will control the new airport and will be administered by the army, which will operate the Tulum terminal, the Santa Lucia terminal and the Mayan Train. The income from this new infrastructure will be used to cover the pensions and retirements of the armed forces, AMLO announced at the end of 2020.

He stressed at the time that the work must be protected so that it is not privatized.

“We will ensure that the administration of the train and the airports is good, that it is self-sufficient and that the profits of this company are used to strengthen the finances for pensioners and retirees of the armed forces,” referring to the Navy and Defense.

As reported by REPORTUR.mx, the future of the Tulum airport will have a new city for the military, however, this terminal will be civil-military, that is, it will also serve for the transport of passengers, meeting the demand for travel in the Riviera Maya.

The airport includes the construction of a building for the passenger terminal, boarding rooms, control tower, parking lot and roads, in addition to the urban planning of a military city, main support buildings and for the civil airport service. It is expected to be ready in a year.
