Trump Says Cartels Control Mexico, Warns Action Needed

Former U.S. President Donald Trump speaking at a press conference

United States — U.S. President Donald Trump said that something must be done about Mexico, referring to drug cartels.

In an interview with Fox News, the American president reiterated that he has repeatedly asked Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum if she wants the United States to eliminate the cartels.

“We have a very cordial relationship with her. She is a good woman, but the cartels control Mexico. She does not govern Mexico. The cartels are the ones who control it. And we could be politically correct and kind and say: ‘Oh, yes, she governs it.’ No, no. She is very, you know, very afraid of the cartels, who are the ones who control Mexico, and I have asked her on numerous occasions: ‘Would you like us to eliminate the cartels?’ ‘No, no, no, Mr. President, no, no, please.’ So we have to do something,” said the American leader.

Trump’s statements occur in the context of the attack that the United States carried out this Saturday in Venezuela, which resulted in the capture of Nicolás Maduro.

Hours before Trump’s statements, President Sheinbaum used her social media to speak out about the intervention in Venezuela.

Through her X account, the president condemned and rejected the military actions carried out unilaterally in recent hours by U.S. armed forces in Venezuela, stating that it violates the charter of the United Nations (UN).

In a statement, the federal leader called for respect for international law.
