Cozumel, Quintana Roo — With an emotional farewell marked by the traditional formation of cadets on the masts, the Military Training Ship Cuauhtémoc ARM departed from the Punta Langosta pier, leaving a wake of admiration and pride in the Cozumel community, which had the privilege of hosting it for six days on its first visit to Mexico following the incident at the Brooklyn Bridge in New York.
Representing the municipal president, José Luis Chacón Méndez, the second councilwoman and president of the City Council's Tourism Commission, María Fernanda Vargas González, attended the departure ceremony alongside Daniela Giomara Ayala Blanco, the municipal trustee, and the comptroller, Fidencio Balam Puc. They thanked the crew, commanded by Captain Víctor Hugo Molina Pérez, for their presence and highlighted the bonds of fellowship between Cozumel and the Mexican Navy.
During its stay, the ship opened its doors to the local public and visitors, who were able to tour its passageways, learn its history, and take photographs aboard the emblematic "Ambassador and Gentleman of the Seas." The visit was a success both culturally and socially, reinforcing a spirit of identity and respect for the Armed Forces.
As part of its agenda, the crew participated in recreational and cultural activities on the island, notably the official handover of the book "B.E. Cuauhtémoc 25 Years Ambassador and Gentleman of the Seas," which is now part of the collection at the municipal public library, Gonzalo de J. Rosado Iturralde, so that future generations may learn the history of this flagship vessel.
With these actions, the Cozumel municipal government reaffirms its commitment to promoting cultural tourism and strengthening ties with institutions that promote national values, education, and respect for traditions.
The training ship Cuauhtémoc departed for its next destination in Progreso, Yucatán, continuing its journey through the Panama Canal en route to its home port in Acapulco, Guerrero.
