Tourist Van Plunges Into Hotel Inlet in Mexico

Playa del Carmen, Mexico — A tourist transport van fell into the inlet of the Catalonia Riviera Maya hotel last night within the Puerto Aventuras complex. The incident occurred after the driver reversed without noticing that the roadway had ended.

According to reports, the rear of the vehicle plunged into the water, leaving it partially submerged. Fortunately, the van was not carrying any passengers at the time, only the operator, who emerged unscathed though visibly shaken by the incident.

Following the mishap, the driver was assisted by the hotel's security personnel, who helped him exit the van. Minutes later, insurance company representatives and a tow truck arrived at the location and began operations to remove the unit from the water.

Images of the accident circulated rapidly on social media, generating comments about a lack of signage or lighting in the area where the event occurred.

At this time, it has not been reported whether there was any material damage to the hotel property or if the van suffered severe damage.

Authorities have not specified if the operator or the tourist transport company will face any sanctions for the incident, although it was reported that a report has been initiated to determine potential liabilities.
