Tour bus hits motorcyclists in Cancún, driver escapes

A tourist bus involved in an accident with a motorcycle on Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard in Cancún

Cancún, Mexico — A bus dedicated to tourist transportation struck two motorcyclists and dragged them several meters on Monday afternoon, in an incident captured by witnesses and shared on social media, on Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard.

According to initial reports, the incident occurred around 5:00 p.m. on Monday, when the young men traveling on a motorcycle attempted to make a U-turn in the lane heading from downtown Cancún towards the International Airport.

At that moment, the bus operator allegedly tried to overtake them, causing a collision.

After the impact, both occupants of the motorcycle were thrown onto the pavement; one of them was reportedly run over by the bus tires.

Far from stopping immediately, the driver continued for several more meters, apparently intending to leave the scene, but the motorcycle became stuck underneath the vehicle, forcing him to stop approximately 200 meters ahead.

People who witnessed the accident requested assistance through the 911 emergency number, leading to a rapid deployment of Municipal Police officers, Traffic agents, and paramedics. The injured received pre-hospital care and were subsequently rushed to a hospital, where their health condition is reported as reserved due to the severity of the fractures they sustained.

The driver of the bus, a Volvo-brand vehicle, fled on foot. He apparently boarded another tourist transport bus to escape.

Ministerial authorities reported that the case will be investigated with the support of C5 surveillance cameras and cameras from businesses near the accident area.
