Cancún, Quintana Roo — Tire repair shops along José López Portillo Avenue have taken over public sidewalks, forcing pedestrians to step into vehicle traffic to get around them.
Between the intersection with Kabah Avenue and the stretch just past Chac Mool, piles of tires routinely block the sidewalk. Equipment from the shops and vehicles parked on the curb add to the obstructions.
No city intervention has been observed to clear the pedestrian right of way, and any attempts appear to have been short-lived. Similar conditions are common on other streets with a heavy concentration of tire shops, including Kabah and Chichén Itzá avenues.
