Cancún, Quintana Roo — Authorities have arrested three individuals in connection with the execution of a 16-year-old boy whose body was found inside a refrigerator in Cancún last week, with the crime linked to drug trafficking activities.

State Prosecutor Raciel López Salazar confirmed during a security cabinet conference that the murder of the minor, whose body was discovered in the Supermanzana 214 area approximately a week ago, is related to retail drug dealing.

The body was found on April 5 around 11:00 a.m. after an anonymous call alerted authorities to its presence on a dirt road about 300 meters from Galaxias del Sol Avenue.

The victim was identified as 16-year-old Víctor Emmanuel, a minor who had an active Amber Alert search notice.

According to autopsy results, the teenager was decapitated and died from a deep cut to the neck that caused death within seconds.

The State Prosecutor’s Office, through the Common Jurisdiction Public Prosecutor’s Office, opened an investigation file, and following inquiries by investigative police, three people have been detained.

The detainees are José Antonio, along with two minors identified as Justin and Alexis, who were located and arrested near Laurelillo Street in the Prado Norte neighborhood.

According to information provided by the prosecutor, the vehicle used to abandon the body was a white Nissan, driven by José Antonio accompanied by another individual.

Investigations indicate the murder occurred inside a residence in Prado Norte, which authorities have already searched. At the location, investigators found blood traces, along with a knife, a machete, a hammer, and plastic pieces from the refrigerator that were allegedly removed to insert the body.

López Salazar detailed that the detained minors allegedly participated in cleaning the property after the crime, while the adult was responsible for transporting and abandoning the corpse.

Authorities indicated the suspects are alleged members of a criminal group operating in the area.

The prosecutor general mentioned that investigations continue to determine if more people are involved in the case.
